Every ship we book for has a horn section and most have 2 saxes – usually and alto chair and a tenor chair. Whichever is your primary instrument, you’ll also need to be able to double to a professional standard on flute and clarinet. Very generally speaking, there’s more clarinet on the tenor chair and more flute on the alto chair but both need to be able to do both!
As a member of the ship’s theatre orchestra, you will play a huge range of different music… everything from well-known West End and Broadway shows (such as Grease, Mam Mia and We Will Rock You) to swing and jazz sets around the ship. You will also perform with a variety of visiting entertainers.
In order to succeed on our audition, you’ll need excellent technique on your sax and doubles. Very strong reading skills are required as rehearsal time is often limited. Additionally, you’ll need to demonstrate that you’re comfortable improvising in a range of styles.
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, please use the form on this page to send us your CV or resume and we’ll be in touch to arrange an audition.
